Regarding Nommy's reposting of The Master's post about the JMS and SCIFI Channel marriage:
Does anyone know when details might be forthcoming, LYTA???

All the telepathy discussion has got me to thinking Quiet! I know what you're thinking; just keep it to yourself about how the Shadows were almost paranoid about telepaths, yet the Drakh seemed to be both telepathic and telekenetic, too. The Shadows didn't appear to have a problem with them. Maybe the Drakh were an earlier Vorlon experiment that went bust?

Prof, JMS enjoys irritating people with the way he spins his stories. Just accept that you're another victim. No one wanted Garibaldi to be the one responsible for Sheridans meandering into the clutches of Clarke's supporters. So, that's exactly how JMS writes it...it tweaks his audience. Eventually, Garibaldi gets his redemption, it's just that it takes awhile.
Dark Genesis:The Birth of PSI Corps (Book 1 of the PSI Corps Trilogy)
Kevin Vacit (Bester's Grandpa) said that one of the twin Shilako (Vorlons, I assume) was killed by their enemies (Gotta be the Shadows) because they figured out what they were up to manipulating Earth.
Is that what honked off the Vorlons so bad when the Shadows killed Kosh? Lyta said after he was killed that one hadn't died in a very long time. So my assumption is that the last one that died was also killed by the Shadows.
Something I can't get a grasp on. Of the original twin Shilako one died and the other became part of the sky and gave birth (Or some other reference) to another set of twins and from that set of twins came the gift of Telepathy. How does the Offspring translate?
Who was it who said "It is stated in the first Legion of Fire book that the person who is to wear a keeper has to voluntarily accept it"?
Just wondering, because in the third book (I think) was when David Sheridan got his keeper. He was definately not feeling voluntary - he screamed and tried to get away from it, smashing up his room in the process.
Could just be yet another inconsistancy.
As to the Captain Jack / Regent inconsistency - Jack's keeper was shot from him, so only it's main body was removed, and the tendrils would have still been within him - The Regent's keeper left voluntarily, removing it's tendrils in the process.
So, how about a teep with a keeper? I guess a powerful teep could block the keeper's communication with its Drakh "parent. The effect of the keeper on it's host however is based on its ability to inflict physical pain. A teep would have no special resistance to this. A powerful teep could, I guess, attempt to control the keeper telephically. Lyta should be able to anyway http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
REPRINTED from Crowe's edition of the NewWire at Speculative Vision:
JMS spars with Boxleitner:
"Seeing as how we have plenty of Sci-Fi fans, and in paticular, B5, I got a laugh out of this from Cinescape and thought you would too. Here is what was posted:
Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski is taking to task recent comments made about the future of B5 by series star Bruce Boxleitner.
Yesterday, Eon Magazine quoted the actor as giving his opinion that the future of the franchise is not controlled by JMS, saying, "No, it's not even in his hands. He doesn't even own it. Its not his property anymore - [the show] was taken away from him a year before we ended."
Checking in with the site, JMS responded to this comment as follows:
"Bruce should talk about what Bruce knows, which is acting. He is not privy to my deals and never has been. WB could not take the show away from me in ownership because I never OWNED B5 to begin with. NO producer of a TV show owns the show. (I'm omitting people like Aaron Spelling because he is able to finance the shows and thus partly owns them.) The studios that provide the deficit financing own the shows. Fox, not Chris Carter, owns X-FILES. Paramount owns STAR TREK lock, stock and nacelles, in all of its incarnations. This is the case with virtually EVERY TV series ever made. WB owned B5, and they owned CRUSADE. They could not take from me something I never had.
"I would hope that you would correct this misstatement by Bruce at your earliest convenience.
"Joe Straczynski"
Ian that was me. You are right, initially David is not willing to join with the Keeper but then the Keeper begins to talk about how David cannot do anything because of his parents being over protective and David begins to listen, and agree. Go back and re-read the entire section. The Keeper knew what David wanted to do, leave Minbar and be given more freedom, and it played up on that. When it does, David stops fighting it.
Wizz, I have no problem with what was done to Garibaldi. He could have damaged Garibaldi by letting ISN leak that Garibaldi was the one who provided the info needed to capture Sheridan's Dad. That outs Garibaldi as a traitor and leads to the same problems that Garibaldi faces now.
As much as I think Sheridan is the king of Chowderheads, I cannot really believe that he would leave the entire war effort to save his father. Sacrifice the freedom of all people on Earth for one man? That is beyond a stretch. I would say this even if Garibaldi was 100% trust worthy and wasn't trying to set Sheridan up.
The person responsible for running a war cannot afford to place the life of one person, even if it is his Dad, in front of the cause he is fighting for. This action has never made sense.
But that's me
Anyone want to bet that Garibaldi was very nervous about making the trek back to the resistance with Sheridan near by and armed? (grins)
I wish we could have seen the Garibaldi and Sheridan chat that occurs after this episode. I really do.
Prof, I was just offering a possible scenario based on what you said,
"ARRRGGHHHH I cannot get past the fact that there was a better way to get Sheridan captured and to have Garibaldi honk off the Alliance then what was used."
Sure there was a better way. You and I'm sure a bunch of others know it, too (myself included). JMS knows what you're thinking! However, being a good chowderhead, he blindly heads forth to Mars with no sembalence of a disguise because he is right and the rest of the universe is wrong. I'm amazed he got as far as he did. Then again, maybe if you're ignorant of danger, you won't get hurt.

And, I'm having a sale on 3 of the finest bridges ever to cross the bay.

LOL Wizzard, I guess that is one way to think about it. And here I am working to find something a bit more plausible that could have made Sheridan be less of a CHowderhead (evil grin)
OK, I return to my original statement, Sheridan is Senior Chowderhead. End of story
actually, you guys are wrong--
sheridan went to mars disguised as centauri bureaucrat abrahamil linkoni. that's why no one recognized him.
iz
portion of script edited from episode by JMS:
Gang of Thugs on Mars: "Hey, look, it's Sheridan. Grab him!"
Thug Leader: "Hold it, you bone heads! That's not Sheridan. That's that Centauri, Abrahamil what-is-name. You want to start a war?"
One of the Gang: "Oh, right. Good call."
Thug Leader: "Don't worry. Sheridan's bound to have a good disguise. We'll just have to wait until Garibaldi points him out."
One of Thugs: "Hey, maybe he's that Drazi over there. Grab him!"

I didn't like Lochley at first. But the Day of the Dead episode really solidified her in my view and made her something more than a caricature.
I thought her scenes in that episode gave her depth and gave me a character I could warm up to and like.
But yeah, the crawling in a tank top crap was annoying.
Lochley took Ivanova's place. For me, that was the problem. I think that Season 5 could have run smoothly with little interaction with the new Captin of B5. The only storyline that really required her presence was the telepath story.
After four season of developing characters, adding a new character and trying to flesh her out in the fifth season felt forced. I could have cared less about Lochley, I was more interested in the characters I already knew and how they reacted to the end of the various wars they had been involved in. Lochely's time on camera took away from time that I felt was better used to get at the changes in realtionship between Garibaldi, Franklin, Sheridan, G'Kar, Londo, Delenn, Vir, Lennier ect...
Iw anted to see Sheridan talking to Garibaldi about what happened on Mars. I wanted to see Londo and Vir interacting more, preparing for what was to come. I wanted to see Delenn and Sheridan develop their relationship, deal with the cultural differences that divided them. Watrch Sheridan come to terms with having to live on Minbar, which was going to be problematic for him and the Minbari.
There were so many story lines that could have been developed, that I felt should have been dealt with, that the time developing Lochley was, in my opinion wasted.
Nothing against the character or the actoress, I just found that character to be unnecessary expect in a very few places.
If there was going to be a new Captin of Babylon 5, I wanted Ivanova. If we couldn't have Ivanova, I would have rathered a faceless drone that was mentioned from time to time but never really developed.
But that is me.
Hey Crash! I actually agree with you on all those points. I need sleep. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif

Regarding Capt. Cupcake AKA Capt. Lochley:
What was it that people hate so much about her.
I'll readily admit that she didn't compare to Ivanova in any way. I also readily admit the ponytail thing was horrible.
However, her catfights with Garibaldi were really cool. Also a while back in this same topic everyone was chewin' up on the entire Command staff for allowing Mr. G.'s drinking to get out of hand.
Well who was it that drilled it into his head that he was way out of control? As was stated it shoulda been Franklin in that scene (Much Earlier than Lochley stepped in)since he also was an addictive personality and had his problem with the stims. Who was it that sent for Lise, since obviously she was the only one who would be able to take control over the situation and set him to rights?
Once again I freely admit that she was not my favorite character, actually I think she probably was my least favorite character, but I don't hate her and don't believe she ruined the show

Sindatur - The Grey owl Wizzard
I think Lochley started with a handicap because she came in late and replaced somebody popular. Tracy Scoggins, I thought, did a fine job.
[Personal opinion alert.... climbing on soapbox, take cover...] I am, however, sick to death of the way Hollyweird portrays female military people, especially officers. I suppose the makeup is necessary for the camera, but so much, and so obvious? And the exaggerated swagger.... And the "if you cross me I'll kick your @$$" attitude. In all the years I served, I never ran across anybody who acted that way. Not even me. Well, not often. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif Oh well. *sigh*
Anyway, maybe it had to do with her stint on "Babewatch." People had trouble making the transition.
But was the "crawling through the conduits in her workout top looking for telepaths" scene really necessary? http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
Agreeing about 85% with PC.
I wanted Ivanova to be there. Since she wasn't I think I could have accepted another person with wit or an interesting personality - not necessarily a major character woth lots of camera time-, but at least someone who didn't leave me wondering why such a boring character would have been introduced.
I also was sorry that Marcus died. His humor, bravery, and ardor - not to mention wonderful good-looks, made him an appealing character. However the non-honorable decision he made to desert at the crux of the battle may have made his character impossible to continue.
Nommy, we agree on something? My god, the world is going to come to an end!!!!!!
Bmat, I am sorry that Marcus died as well. Mainly because he died to keep a charachter alive and we never got to really see how that affected Ivanova.
Of course, there was no way that JMS would have known that Claudia Christian was going to leave the show, heck when it all happened there was not suppose to be a Season 5.
If JMS had known there was going to be a Season 5I am not sure how Marcus would have fit in. The Shadow War was over. The Minbari and Human Civil War was over. What could he have done on B5 that would have justified his staying on the station? (shrugs)

Gosh- does someone that good-looking and witty really need a purpose? http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
But you have a good point, other than being pleasant to watch and observe I guess there wasn't much he could do to advance the storyline.
Actually Wizz, I read somewhere once that Lyta was always intended to be with Byron. JMS even made the point of telling the writers, "Just don't get Lyta involved with a love interest"
I also remember reading that Season 5 was pretty much supposed be as it was, except the final 4 from S4 would have finished up about #2 and #3 of Season 5, although Deconstruction of Falling Stars, I believe was an add in. And, of course Ivanova was meant to still be around
------------------
Sindatur - The Grey owl Wizzard
I remember how the fifth season was so up-in-the-air that JMS decided to get the story finished in season 4, and stretch it when season 5 was announced, if it ever was. With season 4 constructed to finish the story, Lochley had an additional burden, that being part of a story that I think was made up as filler. For instance, if season 5 was a go much earlier, the telepath sequences would have been interspersed rather than lumped together as they were. And, as some have suggested in the news groups, Ivanova would have been the one to get involved with Byron, instead of Lyta. Can you imagine Ivanova after losing two Brits to death? I'm sure there are more instances where the holdup of season 5 made things a bit strained in making the story. Except for Sleeping in Light (and it was really shot for a season 4 finale) the only two season 5 eps I really liked were "A View From the Gallery" and "Day of the Dead", both non-arc stories. The rest was worth watching, but overall, a bit of a letdown. IMnsHO.
Actually Byron was going to be Ivanova's love interest and Lyta was going to be his lead groupie. Can't think of a better word for Lyta, but she was going to be his most ardent follower and take up the cause when he died. That part of the arc stayed the same.
But Ivanova was going to become Byron's love interest which was going to be interesting due to her latent telepathy that she was hiding. Also her inherent distrust of telepaths was going to be a issue I believe.
*sigh* I am still ticked that CC left the show. It would have been interesting to see what was in store for her for season 5.

Jeez, First there was Talia, then Marcus, and then it would have been Byron?
No wonder she wasn't in season 5 ;P
Talk about symetry.
Mac:"Rumors...like Ivanova leaving. Some say it was because of that guy...Marcus dying. Others say it was because she wanted a promotion. She wanted more money...".
Just seemed like one of those timing things, this discussion regarding Ivanova and A View from the Gallery showing tonight.
I forgot about last nights ep till I saw it again. Just who were those aliens again? We never heard a thing about them since. Jeez, a full scale i9nvasion and blam! Nothing more. I absolutley loved the MAC and BO view
There's finally a brief description up on Amazon.Com for the Technomage trilogy Book 1 "The Passing of the Technomages, Book 1: Casting Shadows by Jeanne Cavelos which is being released in 11 more days (February 27, 2001)
Book Description
The spectacular space epic continues, as the techno-mages face the growing threat of the Shadows . . .
As Elric and his student Galen watch with taut anticipation, dragons, angels, and shooting stars rain from the sky,...
Counting the hours, I hope my Barnes and Noble doesn't lose this one like they did with Book 3 of The Centauri Trilogy

If they do, you can always order it from Amazon.com or some other such store.
New B5, life is good

Slightly off-topic...
I found this "petition" reading through the postings on the Babylon 5 Newsgroup (the moderated one). It basically is an attempt to encourage the SciFi channel to pickup where TNT left off with regards to Crusade. It looked harmless, didn't set any cookies on my computer, and I got a confirmation email that my electronic "signature" had been attached to the petition. Here's the URL; what the heck, maybe it will make a difference.
Crusade petition

I can't say that it's totally safe, so if you're uncertain about it being ok to use, don't. But, for what it's worth, it passed my inspection.
Is "Final Reckoning" a trilogy book? I would like to start the Techno Mage trilogy. I read 2 vout of 3 of the PsiCorps trilogy
Nommy,
Final Recokening is Book 3 of the PsiCorps Trilogy
Anyone want to discuss FINAL RECKONING?
I just finished the book. I don't want to discuss it "in the open" because that will spoil things for people who haven't read it. But if anyone is interested, I can create a Book Discussion area.
I'm just starting the Centauri Prime trilogy.
iz
LOL...See....I hadn't read that one. I heard it was boring.
Boring? Not at all. In fact it almost (almost!) made me feel sorry for Bester.
Nommy,
Some people were not as pleased with book 3 as they were with book 1 and 2 (even heard from 1 or 2 people they only like book 1) but I enjoyed it. Besides, how can you not read the 3rd book in the trilogy. It shows you how Bester finally got it. It even briefly mentioned Lyta. Although not the strongest of the Trilogy, IMHO it was worth the read.
I quite liked book 3. I think overall they gave us a much better insight into Bester, book 3 included.
Speaking of Bester, did we ever find out exactly what Psicorps was amassing their fleet in Hyperspace for (from the Corps is Mother, the Corps is Father)?
Or are we just supposed to assume it was for the Telepath vs mundane war.
I think they may have briefly mentioned the fleet in Book 3 of the PsiCorps Trilogy, but not sure.
Of the three books, I enjoyed #3 the best. It rounded out Bester's life outside of the Babylon 5 station. Garibaldi finally gets to settle things with Bester, which for both of them are important events in their lives. That it self is a great reason for reading the book.
No, I don't believe that's a spoiler. Rather, it's an enticement to read the book. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
